David Twohy said that when he first met you, he thought you were American.  How did you perfect your accent?

I don't normally have a big problem with an American accent, but it was weird during Pitch Black because, ironically we ended up shooting it in Australia, so an Australian crew And David decided that I didn’t need a dialogue coach surrounded me, which I probably would have been more comfortable with, as a security blanket.  But it was fine in the end.

Do you miss Australia when you're working in Hollywood?

If things were different, I probably would be quite happy to stay in Australia and have a nice life there.  I've moved to the states now, because I've got a boyfriend there and I want to be near him. Ever since I was a kid I had this fantasy that I wanted to make a movie in Hollywood inspired by my grandmother who'd become a nanny and was working in LA.  But I didn't really focus on that until I’d finished studying.  If you want to make a career out of acting, it is important to stay in American films because there are so many being made there.

Did appearing in the TV series Neighbours help your career?

You'll find that a lot of Australian actors have done neighbours, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be a huge star.  I played Catherine O’Brien, but no one remembers her.  It was pretty much a non-event.  I wouldn't have done Neighbours if I hadn't been going to America. I only did it because I didn't have any money - It paid for my flight.  I guess films were always where I wanted to be as an actor.  Television is probably more glamorous in a way, but in film you have more time and it seems like more of a craft and an art form.
