And there are more silent but deadly games on the way.
Later this summer when the movie the "Chronicles of Riddick" premieres,
its accompanying game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher
Bay for Microsoft's Xbox, is going to be a typical movie-licensed game.
This first-person shooter tells the back story of Richard B. Riddick,
the hardcore killer from the sci-fi film "Pitch Black" and how he
escaped from a maximum-security prison.
"We wanted to do more than the see-the-movie, play-the-movie thing,"
said Peter Wanat, a producer with Vivendi Universal Games, the game's
publisher.
Players will use Riddick's strength and stealth to avoid the prison's
pitfalls, which dutifully reflect the dueling high-tech and low-tech
aspects of the "Pitch Black" universe.
Wanat said people who play the game will recognize subtle elements from
the movie that the game expands upon, and the challenges players will
face will be best completed by solving them the way the character
Riddick would.
"You have to be thoughtful, calculating and ruthless," Wanat said. "You
can't just go running around and shooting everything. There are not
enough bullets in the prison to kill every guard.
Vin Diesel - who plays Riddick in the movie and whose likeness is in
the game - owns a game design firm called Tigon Studios, which is
helping create this title, which will be available in June.
